Cate 2.2

Hello y’all! Greetings from sunny Hanko where I’m chilling this summer. Well… not chilling enough it seems - since I’m back with the latest version of Cate. This time we’re talking Cate 2.2 and although there’s not a whole lot of new stuff in here, I’ve been addressing a lot the issues brought to my attention. I’m already working on versions 2.3 and 3 but I won’t talk about that right now. I hope you can all live with that :P

So without further ado: here’s Cate 2.2!

Dell + Ubuntu = True!

Well it’s official then - and thank the lords for that. Dell is going to start selling computers with Ubuntu preinstalled. Both the Dimension and XPS desktop lineup as well as the Inspiron laptops are going to receive the Ubuntu treatment.

The computers will be sold via Dell’s web site, said Canonical’s director of operations Jane Silber. “We have worked with Dell to get Ubuntu fully supported and fully certified on Dell hardware,” she said. “Ubuntu has the full endorsement of Dell.”

This was hardly a surprise as Ubuntu has thrived over the past few years and it’s community is growing larger by the day. More and more people realize the Windows reign (of terror) is finally over. Fueling the speculations was Dells CEO Michael Dell’s acquisition of Precision M90 laptop which he loaded with Ubuntu and a bunch of Open Source software in late April.
This is a huge step forward for …

Vista’s 120 days of grace

Vista is here, we all knew that. I was even thinking about buying it but then I read about Microsofts license policys which are outrageous! I can’t believe we customers are just going to swallow that kind of treatment! So I decided to stick it to the man.

Of course, sticking it to the man is never that easy. Vista needs to be activated by an authorized serial key within 30 days of it’s installation. There is a crack which makes it possible to extend that period to 120 days but after that time you’re dead in the water. You either need to reinstall it or go buy it - that’s the bottom line. There are some cracks out there on the net but I’ve gotten none of them to work.

Reaching that deadily 120 mark isn’t however the end of the line, it turns out. I found out that even when …

Nobody owns the Net!

I’m not an American - I’m a proud Finnish European. But since we Europeans have a very bad habit of repeating all the really terible mistakes our American “friends” do, I feel I should also join the race for internet neutrality. So everyone, please check out this short propaganda film about why the Internet shouldn’t be owned by gready capitalist a-holes :)
